CLASS STRUCTURE & PROGRESSION

Man in red sash leading Kung Fu class in dojo

Mandarin Kung Fu holds classes six days a week. The first hour of each class stresses horse stances and animal postures. Basic blocking, striking, and kicking techniques, as well as breathing and hand strengthening exercises, are also studied during this period. This type of  training is emphasized, because it forms the foundation of our art.

The second half of each class is dedicated to form training and contact work for self defense. Form training, consists of empty hand forms or two man contact sets. Solo and contact weapon forms are taught in advanced classes. Contact work, employs the animal movements of our system, and is trained with one or more partners.

Black sashes are earned through years of dedication and training. Because of this, there are no 8 year old black sashes in this school.
