Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I note you stress hard work and not lowering standards, which is definitely a positive attitude. My concern is I want to get into a disciplined fitness program, but I do not want to risk my health. Do you have starter classes in your program? I don't intend to have a heart attack!
A: Private lessons are given to all new students at no extra charge. We introduce you to our workout program at your own rate. Although the movements are strenuous, they are similar in many respects to isometrics, in that you task your body to your own specifics. Your progress in this area is entirely up to you, although we will advise you accordingly.
Q: What is the best time to observe a beginners' class ?
A: Please refer to our "Typical Weekly Class Schedule".
Q: Is there any pressure to enroll when viewing a class?
A: You are welcome to visit as a guest anytime we have classes. In addition to our basic training workouts, we have classes that would provide an individual with a comprehensive overview of what they would experience in our school at all levels. Please be assured that you are welcome as a guest and do not have to concern yourself with any hard line signup tactics.
Q: What are new students expected to wear for class ?
A: New students are required to wear a full T shirt (no tank tops), a pair of long workout pants that they can move freely in, and a pair of sneakers. If you prefer, you can purchase a uniform.
Q: How long will it take to become a black sash or belt?
A: How quickly you can become a black sash in our school depends on your natural ability, the amount of time you attend classes, and how hard you train. This would take a well-focused and committed individual approximately 5 years.
Q: Could you tell me the minimum age you need to be for classes?
A: We now have special Little Dragon classes for 4 years olds, children's classes for 5 to 7 year olds, and youth's classes for 8 to 16 year olds.
Q: Is Toy Gar the same as Choy Li Fut?
A: No. Although both systems have their roots in Southern China, the systems are not the same. The basic techniques of Choy Li Fut are similar in many ways to the movements in Hung Gar. Toy Gar is a guarded village style from Toyson that incorporates deceptive & sneaky movements. It is a perfect blend to Hung Gar & Fut Gar Kung Fu.
